Masters Message: From The East

March , 2010:

Brethren, we have many things to look forward to. First and foremost we have our DeMolay chapter in the forefront. The young men of our newly re-established DeMolay will receive their degrees at the Pasadena Scottish Rite on March 13th. This is very exciting to me as I wanted to devote this year to our new youth groups. There has been a declining number involved with our youth groups. We as Masons have got to put an end to that, and we are planning two events that will hopefully promote both groups. Wor. Rees Padfield PM also saw how important this endeavor was, and from his leadership it has all begun. Secondly, due to the high volume of candidates rushing the doors of our institution, we have a special treat planned on March 30th. I have heard the officers will be dressed in black suits, wearing sunglasses, and possibly even white canes. Wor. Howard Smith PM will be establishing our secondary first degree team, and they will be conferring both degrees that evening. One of the favorite events all year is Past Masters Night, and this will be a prelude to that evening, plus with all coming to the doors of Freemasonry, we may be having extra degree nights on Thursdays and possibly Saturdays. We are in the continuance of our "Coming Home " event; hopefully throughout this year it is my hope to meet many of our brethren that have not been attending lodge for a time. This excites me for finally I may be able to meet many of my Brothers and hopefully see them much more in the near future. Lastly, Bro. Scott Spiegel Chaplain, has been redesigning many of our display sheets for the lodge, and in a large part responsible in helping Bro. Marc Newman SW with all the new Candidates we are getting. Our bulletin board at the entrance to the hall is full of his awesome work. Please do take a look at all he has been doing to make our lodge decorum emulate the decorum and standards Masonry puts forth every day.

Fraternally,
Worshipful Thomas Waite

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity. Its history and tradition date to antiquity. Its singular purpose is to make good men better. Its bonds of friendship, compassion and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military and religious conflicts through the centuries. Freemasonry is neither a forum nor a place for worship. Instead, it is a friend of all religions which are based on the belief in one God.

What is a Masonic Lodge?

The word "lodge" refers to two things:  a group of Masons meeting in a particular place and the place in which they meet.  The term, "lodge," comes from the structures which the medieval stonemasons built against the sides of the cathedrals during construction. During the winter, when construction work was stopped, they lived in their lodges and worked at carving stone.

How Does One Become a Mason?

The conditions for membership are few. Applicants must be adult males, mentally and physically competent and of good moral character. Masonry does not solicit or recruit new members. A man seeking Masonic membership must do so of his own free will and accord. Masons believe that a man who becomes a Mason of his own personal choice is much more likely to become a dedicated and productive member.

Once a man decides to seek Masonic membership, he needs only to ask a Mason.
